Saturday August 2nd - More Dublin Fun

It was a crazy start to our morning. We wanted to go to the Kilmainham Gaol but did not have tickets. We found out that at 9:15 some tickets open for the day. While laying in bed Kate and I refreshed and refreshed and Kate was able to get us two tickets for 10:30. So we jumped out of bed, quickly got ready and headed out for the day. I feel weird saying it was amazing, but it was really neat to hear the story of the revolutions and what happened to the people who were in the jail. We saw cells, the chapel, the newer wing, the yard and where the men of the 1912 revolution were executed.

Then we headed out with Ciaran of the secret food tour of Dublin. We were introduced to so many amazing foods and drinks. We started at Vice Coffee for a lesson on how to make Irish Coffee, which was delicious, and a Belgium chocolate brownie to go with it. Then we had a sausage roll from a place called The Bakery. These were all things I had never had before and enjoyed them all!

We walked around a little market before heading to Cappuccino. There we had three types of cheeses, blue being my favorite and some black and white pudding. Both were very good and I liked them.

We made our way to our next stop, an oyster bar. I did try it and decided that I do not need to ever again!

The Store Room was our next stop where we got to try Irish Stew. We could choose from beef, lamb or a seafood stew. I went with the beef and it was incredible. It was made with a Guinness gravy and the beef just melted in your mouth. We got a half pint of Guinness to go with it.

Our final stop was for my favorite, Gelato at a place called Murphys. This is not your regular gelato place. All of the flavors have an Irish theme and were so creamy. We were given a scoop of brown bread and Sea Salt Dingle. So, so good!

Our guide Ciaran was amazing and as we ended we asked for a great place to hear Irish Music. He sent us to Darkey Kelly. But, first we stopped at the Hairy Lemon for a drink and then headed over. This place was so fun. The band was playing and everyone was drinking and having a grand time! We met many new friends that night. Carin from the Netherlands who was traveling alone, some brothers from Michigan celebrating a 40th birthday and a group of women from Connecticut celebrating their 60th birthdays! When the second band came on it was more mainstream music and with the drinks flowing came the dancing. We had an amazing night and I'm grateful to Kate who got me home safe and sound at 2am!
