August 5th - Book of Kells and Guinness Factory, oh and TK Maxx!

Image
This morning we decided to do some window shopping before our tours. I was on the search for a Christmas ornament. We walked down Grafton Street checking out the shops and looking for something original, which was never found :(. At the end of Grafton Street is a mall that we popped into and found a TK Maxx. Yes, that is right TJ's little brother TK. I was happy to find a Buffalo shirt and a Bills Hat. It was flat brimmed so it wasn't for me. But I did find a super cute pair of sneakers that I bought! Then we headed to the Book Of Kells tour. We have been staring at the signs from our windows since we got here and finally decided to see it. The book was "written" in the 600s. It is a copy of the four gospels completed by monks in Scotland and moved to Kells. When the Vikings came they took the book for the gold that was on the cover and left the book. It was then "buried" under sod and taken out a few months later without its c...

Monday, August 4th - Day Trippin'

We got up early and headed out the door for another day trip. The day was very, very windy! This time we went to Glendalough, Wicklow and Kilkenny. As we drove through the countryside the views were absolutely beautiful. There were sheep and cows everywhere. Everything was lush and green and we even saw a rainbow.  We started out at Glendalough. Where we heard all about Kevin and his life. He was a very religious person who became a priest, then a bishop and started a monastery there in the 6th century. He eventually becomes a saint. There are many legends that go along with it! We shall see what happens in a year. Then we got to hike around the area and see the beautiful lakes. When hiking back to the bus, we heard a crack and a tree came crashing down just to the right of us. Definitely, scared me! As we drove to Wicklow Gap we passed by where they filmed parts of Braveheart! Wicklow Gap was VERY windy! We made a quick stop for pictures. Even with the rainy/cloudy ...

I had a very soft launch this morning after a very late and tipsy night. We went on a coastal tour to Howth about 30 minutes to the east of Dublin. Howth is a working fishing town on a peninsula. We took an open top bus and drove listening to the commentary of the bus driver. We learned a lot about where U2 lives and the small islands off the coast. Our first stop as at the Howth Cliffs. Here we got to get off the bus and walk the hills to see wonderful views of Dublin bay. They were not cliffs, per say, but it had beautiful views! Our second stop was at the village. Here we got to get off the bus and walk around the town. As we walked to the restaurant we saw some seals at the inlet. Let’s be honest people were feeding them so they were there. But I wasn’t mad! We ate at Kish Fish which was a recommendation from our friend Daniel at the Ha’Penny Bridge Bar. He highly recommended the fish and chips, so Kate got that and she was impressed. I had a chicken sandwich which wa...
