Friday, July 25th - Lisbon ABC

This morning we were able to workout outside. I did yoga and Kate did her workouts and stretching. We met a nice couple from Germany while making breakfast. We set out to explore three parts of Lisbon, Alfama, Baixa and Chiado.

We started by walking to the Castillo de San Jorge. It's a neat castle set in the middle of the city. Unfortunately we couldn't get in, but enjoyed the surrounding area. We tried to ride Tram 28, but the line was loooong, so we decided to wait until later.

We then headed to the Baixa Chiado areas which are right next to each other. Baixa was destroyed during the earthquake in 1755. When it was rebuilt, they used the grid structure which you don't often see in the older cities of Europe! This area is one of the best known in Lisbon for is nicer shops and restaurants. We rode the Elevator De Santa Justa to see the beautiful views. The elevator was inspired my Eiffel Tower. We headed to see Lisbon's Arc de Triumph(every city has one) and walked down to the river.

We stopped for lunch at this great little market in one of the town squares. There with huts with goods, food and drinks. We grabbed a sandwich and had a cup of berries and chocolate for dessert. Or should a say of cup of chocolate with some berries! As we were wandering around we ended up in a New Era store. I was so excited to see that they had hats and shirts repping Buffalo, but sad there was no Bills gear.

We stopped in a church that was built in the 1300s because we could break our streak of seeing churches! This one actually looked like it was built in 1300. It was getting toasty out so we decided to go back and try the Tram line. We waited about 20 minutes and boarded the tram. This one was not as scenic and after riding a bit, we decided to get off at one of the many look out points in Lisbon. Finally, we decided we were done for the day. We had a wonderful Italian dinner with homemade pasta. No picture of the food, but one of this cute dog laying in the street.
